Zoox Vehicle Dynamics and Controls Intern

In the summer of 2022, I worked with the Vehicle Development branch on the Vehicle Dynamics team within Amazon’s subsidiary autonomous driving company called Zoox. Hugo shoutout to the incredible teammates on the Vehicle Dynamics team, Perception team, and fellow engineers who made my experience at Zoox immensely rewarding. The following list summarizes much of what I focused on at Zoox this summer:

  • Developed and integrated novel control algorithm for the active suspension system to enhance rider comfort through improved dynamics.
  • Cross-functionally collaborated with the perception team to utilize the perception stack (notably LiDAR scans) as a control input.
  • Simulated control algorithm performance and vehicle dynamics in IPG Carmaker, MATLAB/SIMULINK, and Python.
  • Led and executed on-vehicle test plan to validate control algorithm performance on a physical system at controlled proving grounds.
  • Led data acquisition and analysis for evaluating the sim-to-real gap, and developed subjective and objective comfort/ride metrics.
  • Designed automated data visualization dashboard to efficiently evaluate simulated data, on-vehicle data, and their correlation.
